I have been helping fitness clients reach their goals for over 10 years now, and in that time I have recognized that no one client is the same. However, I have also discovered that there are distinct similarities that hold clients back from obtaining the results that they are in search of. Here are 3 Fitness Mistakes That You Are Making Right Now!

You are not following a program; Everything that we wish to accomplish in this life requires us to take certain steps. Any worthwhile goal that we have will take planning, strategy, and measurable actions that are trackable, and fitness is certainly no different. If you aren't achieving the goals that you long to obtain, you are either not following a program, or you are following a program that is not right for you. I would suggest that you follow some sort of program for at least 2 weeks, and if you aren't noticing any positive changes after that time, I would suggest modification or starting a new program all together.

You are not eating enough calories; I have never understood how depraving yourself of something. For example, food, would lead to the motivation to help you overcome your deprivation. Let me put it this way, why would you starve yourself to get to a certain weight where you can then eat whatever you want. It is of the utmost importance that you establish healthy eating habits first and foremost. Portion control is critical! Beyond that, you can start tailoring the actual calories that your body needs to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle. Try to eat healthy whole food for the weight that you wish to be. Use one of the many resources to check and see how many calories you would need to ingest for the weight that you would like to be. For example, I'm 80kg and I'm quite active; so it is suggested that I eat 2700 calories (split amongst 3 - 5 meals). This is good for me to know. However, I'm definitely not a calorie counter, but if you are, this is worthwhile intel.

You are not focused on your goals; The ability to have realistic and focused goals will help you along your fitness journey in myriad ways. Have you heard the saying "A goal without a plan, is just a wish". Remember that goals should be Specific, Measurable, Adaptable, Realistic, and Timely. It is important to not change too many variables at one time. For example, if you would like to become consistent with your workouts, only focus on staying consistent for a specific amount of time, and then move on to the next goal. Trying to change too much at the same time will certainly set you up for failure. Focus on one variable at a time and watch your success increase by leaps and bounds.

There you have it, the 3 most common mistakes that people make during their fitness journey. I hope that me highlighting these similarities among the many clients that I have had over the years, will help you to set yourself apart, as well as prove as a catalyst to help you not only achieve, but transcend your goals.
